Criteria for Bradley-Turner Servant Leadership Funds spacer
spacer
The purpose of the Bradley-Turner Servant Leadership Fund is to support student leadership initiatives at Georgia Tech.  Income allocated will support co-curricular experiences consistent with the servant leadership tenets designed to develop effective leaders. The tenets of servant leadership are best captured in two quotes by Robert Greenleaf.

1.  “The test of servant leadership; Do those served grow as persons? Do they, while being served, become healthier, wiser, freer, more autonomous, more likely themselves to become servants? And what is the effect on the least privileged in society; will they benefit or, at least, not be further deprived.”

2.  “I believe that caring for persons, the more able and the less able serving each other are what makes a good society.  Most caring was once person to person.  Now much of it is mediated through institutions – often large, powerful, impersonal; not always competent; sometimes corrupt.  If a better society is to be built, one more just and more caring and providing opportunity for people to grow; the most effective and economical way, while supportive of the social order, is to raise the performance as servant of as many institutions as possible by new voluntary, regenerative forces initiated within them by committed individuals, servants. Such servants may never predominate or even be numerous; but their influence may form a leaven that makes possible a reasonably civilized society.”

To insure the integrity of the gift from the Bradley-Turner Foundation, the following criteria will be used as a guide for allocation of these funds.
  • The recipient should address one or both of the above mentioned quotes and demonstrate how their experience and/or program will meet these principles
  • The need for the program and/or experience is demonstrated
  • The program and/or experience goes beyond the addressing of symptoms and has the capacity to identify root causes and systems level solutions
  • The recipient understands the meaning of servant leadership
  • The program will model the philosophy of servant leadership in its activities and administration
  • The experience and/or program expands the knowledge and understanding of servant leadership for a broader audience beyond that of the recipient
  • The funds for program will be leveraged to expand its impact
  • The recipient addresses expected outcomes of the program
  • Assessment of the impact of the program is provided to ILE (Chair of Servant Leadership) in a timely manner
  • The program addresses issues of operational sustainability and financial stability
  • The proposal demonstrates significance, innovation, and fits the strategic priorities of the program such that the combination of activities funded are greater than the sum of the individual proposals
  • The organization has the experience and capacity to deliver the program
